Chasing the Caterpillar:

Bible: Philippians 3:14
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Chasing the caterpillars:
The great french naturalist Jean-Henri Fabre once conducted an experiment with processionary caterpillars. These caterpillars are named because they tend to march in unison. He lined them around the inter edge of a flowerpot and then monitored them carefully as they marched, naturally, in a circle. At the end of third day, he placed some pine needles, which is the favorite food of these caterpillars, in the center of the pot. They continued walking for four more days without breaking rank. Finally, one at a time, they rolled over and died of starvation, just less than 6 inches from their idea food resource.
These little creatures reminds me in some ways of today's society:
For dads and moms: we take kids to before-school, between-school, after-school programs. We take them to various activities: sport events, music lessons, social nights, trips (you name it!!) - all with good intention that they can take a quantum leap in academics, social skills and career.
But if we stop and look from the overall picture, we are just like one of the caterpillars walking in "unison" with everyone else.
For people in the market place: we work so hard to find "work-family" balance but find that we fail miserably.
For Christians, we go to church, attend services, listen to sermons, participate in activities- with good intention that we may live and live our lives more abundantly.
But if we stop for a moment to take a break from this "endless marching with the crowd", we may truly find the prized goal is right next to us!!
Do Not Confuse Activities with Goals
I like this short video delivered by Zig Ziglar on this subject. Can we stop marching in this endless circle and ask, "what is the goal that the Lord has set out for us.
Friends, don't get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I've got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward - to Jesus. 14 I'm off and running, and I'm not turning back.
