Best Water Sport with Your Family On Deck (all photo taken in 2007 at Albany NY, boat and water ski equipment from courtesy of our lovely neighbor Tarry and Shila)

Have you been to this position, err, in the water?
Let me explain what was going on.
I was in the water, with safety vest around my neck. A pair of old fashion wood water ski on my foot.
Both were doing a nice job in keep me, aah, floating so I would not drown. The only problem was: they also kept me from getting out of the water.
Imaging that both your neck and foot were tied to two great floating devices that suppose to help you water ski but now they are pretty much like floating shackles that keep you in the water.

I did try hard. Just want to prove to you that I did try hard. Next picture shows that I indeed tried to "escape" from this trap with all known techniques to human beings: maneuver swimming, hand and foot coordination, and aerobatic moves that would have shocked the world if they were performed on dry lands.
No use.

Can you find me in this picture, please?
To a point, my family and friends were taking a leisure break watching me struggling from afar.
Zach was very comfortable in the driver seat with mom in the boat.
Hsiaowei, wearing sun glasses, was smiling big times.
Very nice of them, leaving me in the water for a change. Can you see me in this picture with my family on deck, dry and happy? At least try to double click the picture and look for me in the picture.  Pleeeease...

I did water ski for about, err, 30 seconds in my life.
Here is the proof. Rest is history.

By the way these devices are supposed to be utilized this way. Water ski on top of the water; and safety vest dry and clean around my chest.

Lessons learned:

1. "fun" apart from your family might be fun for only 30 seconds, rest is all struggle to get out of the mess (water in this case)
2. some things are designed for much younger generations, let your kids try them first. If they are too young to do it now, wait, just wait.
3. A husband's best water sport is to be the guy helping to pull your wife on a smooth, nice, water tubing ride. Be her faithful watchman and servant, do not try to be a water ski hero. Or you will end up in the water, err, for a while
