A Small Beginning - Princeton Campus Ministry

"See, I am doing a new thing...."

Wilson House project, as we call this campus outreach effort we join force with several dear friends, is in its second week.
We started out to do a English-as-second-language program to reach out graduate students, C
hinese students in particular; however, it turns out to be quiet different... Let me share several things with you:

-Cross-cultural, cross-generation team:

I am so thankful and thrilled to be working along side with a group of people coming from v
arious background: Ginger, Zach's daycare teacher, is a great prayer warrior. Her husband, Howard, gives us the warmest "grandpa" support we can get. James, who brings his Banjo, sits at the front porch playing wonderful Banjo music to fuel the great atmosphere of welcome in the house. James' wife, Andy, also Zach's teacher, was with her grandson, Dimitrious, 9 month old. Then there was Chen's family: Jonathan, high-schooler, who played guitar and violin. Stephen and Nelly were there to support. Stephen also brought his old Banjo to join James' playing. Ho Wen brought Daniel, 12, so Melanie has good company the whole night.
Grandpa and grandma, teens and preteens, pre-schooler and baby. WOW. I see this vision of house church to come forth: "house" church = "cross-generation" body of Christ worshiping and serving together.

- Go into the community and serve them where they are

Somehow, Chinese graduate student did not show up. We ended up opening the house to whoever we could meet on the street. To draw people, I setup keyboard on the patio: Jonathan also came out to help. And together we brought some worship music on Nassau street on Friday evening. We have invited town people from Princeton, Plainsboro and other towns around; retired professors, faulty members, graduate students, teenagers from local high school. All kinds of people stopped by.

- Coming Youth Revival?

When you set music and worship out, who would you think ended up coming? Teenagers!! In particular, we met two to three waves of teenagers from local high school. This is where they come out almost every Friday night to buy sandwich. When they heard music, they came over and chatted. Some also came in to have some bites with us. They soon texted their friends. In less five mins, we have doubled teenagers in the house!! I cannot help but dream to have a full house of youth, including college students here to have a great worship and fellowship time!!
- Persecution? Yea You bet
We also had a chance to meet all kind of people: most of them were very receptive. But as Jesus said that persecution shall be part of this. I did get an angry shout at "Jesus' freak" one time. James got "oh you Christians got the wrong Messiah" comments from a couple he tried to invite on the street.

-Pray and Pray

What a night!! Toward the end, we all sit down and started to pray. The presence of the Lord filled this house in a very special way. He is doing a new thing. Now it springs up. Do we not perceive it?
He will make a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland!!

- Feedback from Zach, 4

"I was boring at the beginning.... Every one seemed to be busy on something. Then I heard the Holy Spirit telling me that I should go to play and help Ms. Andy to take care of Dimitrious"
And he did.
And I think Zach is the person benefited a lot from this wonderful, loving ESL environment to improve his English skills!! Everything works for the good of those who love the Lord!!
