Bible Story—Exodus 7:14-11:10; 12:29-42

Purpose of the story—Show that God is the one performing miracles and wonders and only He can set the Israelites free.

Materials—A jumping rope, a glass of water and some red paint, and some paint brushes.

StoryLast week we learned that God spoke to Moses in a burning bush. He wants Moses to lead Israelites out of the hands of Pharaoh because he made God’s people slaves and made them work harder and harder. He made them to built palaces and tall pyramids and wouldn’t let them leave. God’s people cried to God to set them free. Then one day God said “That’s enough of mean King Pharaoh! I’ll send Moses to set you free.”
(Explain to them what a slave is by gently tying some volunteer’s hands together with a rope and slowly lead he(she) moving around the room. Ask the volunteer if he(she) can untie him(her)self and if he/she can go anyplace on his(her) own. Tell children that God want to untie the “rope” around Israelites and let them go freely to worship Him.)
Moses and his brother Aaron prayed to God for help. (Let the children pretend to be Moses and Aaron and pray, “Dear God, please help me to set your people free”.)
So God asked Aaron to put his staff over the water of Egypt and turned all Egypt’s water into blood. (Put a drop of red paint in the glass of water.) The blood made fish dead and Egyptians did not have water to drink. (Let children pretend to be thirsty and to dig ground for water.)
Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said “Please let Israelites leave to worship their God”. (Let children be Moses and Aaron and repeat after you.)
But Pharaoh shook his head and said “No way”. (Have children shook their heads and pointers.)
Moses and Aaron prayed to God for help again. (Let the children pretend to be Moses and Aaron and pray, “Dear God, please help me to set your people free”.)
So God send a bunch of frogs to cover the land. (Ask children to hop around like frogs.) Pharaoh asked Moses to pray for him and promised to let his people go. But after frogs were dead, Pharaoh did not keep his promise and shook his head said “No way”. (Have children shook their heads and pointers.)
Moses and Aaron prayed to God for help again. (Let the children pretend to be Moses and Aaron and pray, “Dear God, please help me to set your people free”.)
So God send gnats (lices), and flies that no one like. (Ask children to fly around and buzzing like flies.)
So God let dead disease spread among Egypt’s livestock (cows, horses, sheep, goats, camels, and donkeys) and boils among men and animals. But God keep all the Israelites and their animals safe and sound. (Ask children to mimic the sound of strong and healthy livestock of Israelites. The second time the sound of weak and sick livestock of Egyptians.)
Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said “Please let Israelites leave to worship their God”. (Let children be Moses and Aaron and repeat after you.)
But Pharaoh shook his head and said “No way”. (Have children shook their heads and pointers.)
Moses and his brother Aaron prayed to God for help. (Let the children pretend to be Moses and Aaron and pray, “Dear God, please help me to set your people free”.)
So God sent hails to strike everything in the fields of Egyptians (Ask children to thump their feet as the sound of thunder and clap their hands as hails) and locusts to eat up the crops left. (Children wave their arms pretending the wind is blowing and the locusts are coming. Or let them pretend to eat like locusts). But God keep all the Israelites were safe and sound.
So God sent darkness over Egyptians for three days. (Ask children to cover their eyes and count to three).
Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said “Please let Israelites leave to worship their God”. (Let children be Moses and Aaron and repeat after you.)
But Pharaoh shook his head and said “No way”. (Have children shook their heads and pointers.)
Pharaoh was very stubborn, but God told Moses to get ready. God would show everyone that He is the real God. So God told Israelites to put blood of lamb over their doors and he would keep them safe from the last plague. (Ask children pretend to brush a door frame and hide inside. The teacher then goes door by door pretending to strike down the first born son of those without blood on their doorframes but skip those who have done so.)
In the morning, all the Israelites were safe but Egyptians were very sad. Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said “Please let Israelites leave to worship their God”. This time Pharaoh was mad and told Moses to get his people and GO. (Lead children in a cheer: ‘Yeah! We are free’).

Daily Applications—

You may choose to discuss the following questions on different days.
Why did God have to use the ten plagues to strike Egyptians?
(Because Pharaoh was stubborn and did not listen to God’s voices, God had to punish the Egyptians. Show your children examples of stubbornness and how can they listen to God and obey Him.)
Did God delivered Israelites from all the plagues through His might power? Share with your children any stories how God still delivers us from all harm today. Discuss and pray with your children about situations that will need God’s protection.
Did God set Israelites free? Discuss with your children about any area that he/she may need God’s help (i.e. anger, disobey, bad habits…).
